This year, that young fella from my neighbor’s house, he came back from the big city, showing off a big, shiny green watch. Said it was a “Rolex.” He said it was very expensive. What’s a Rolex? I don’t know. But all the young people here like it. They all want to buy a Rolex watch. I heard it’s called Rolex Submariner. Is it really that good?
My neighbor’s kid, he’s always going on about this Rolex Submariner green. Says it’s the real deal, some kind of fancy official thing. I don’t know what’s real. Maybe from flagship store, maybe not. These young folk, they get tricked easy. This high imitation Rolex, I see many young people wear it. I ask them, they all say it is real. But I don’t think so.
I heard that real Rolex Submariner, it’s heavy. Like, real heavy. 40 millimeters, whatever that means. About 1.57 inches or something. That’s what I heard. The boy said the real one, it’s got numbers carved in it. Like a secret code, I reckon. Something like a serial number. It is said that each Rolex Submariner green is different. Those young people told me so. They also want to buy from official flagship store.
But how you know it’s real? That green one, they say it’s special. They call it “Starbucks”. What’s Starbucks? I only know about coffee. This Rolex Submariner green, it’s like that green tea we drink, I guess. My neighbor said everyone wants it. This high imitation Rolex, is it really that popular? He said many people buy it. But I think most of them are fake.
That neighbor’s boy, he also said you gotta wait for it. Like waiting for the crops to grow, he said. Months, even years! Can you believe it? Just for a watch. He said you gotta go to some special store. I think he called it “authorized dealer.” Official flagship store, maybe? I don’t know these things. But he said you gotta wait. Maybe two years. Just for a Rolex Submariner. What’s so good about it? I don’t understand.
I see these young folks around here, they all got these Rolex Submariner green watches. Some look real shiny, some look kinda dull. I asked the neighbor’s boy. He said that high imitation Rolex is also good. Same look, much cheaper. He said many people can’t tell the difference.
He said some of these high imitation Rolex, they even got the numbers carved in ’em. Just like the real ones. But I don’t know. That boy, he reads a lot. Maybe he knows. He said the real Rolex Submariner green, they make less of ’em. That’s why they’re so hard to get. That’s why everyone wants one. Just like our special rice. When we have less, everyone wants it more.

But that neighbor’s boy, he seems happy with his. He keeps polishing it, showing it off. Maybe it makes him feel good. I guess that’s what matters. Even if it’s a high imitation Rolex. If it makes you happy, then it’s good, I suppose. But two years waiting? For a Rolex Submariner green? That’s too long. I could grow two crops of rice in that time!
I asked him, “Why you want that Rolex Submariner green so much?” He said, “It’s a status symbol.” What’s that? I don’t know. He said it shows you’re successful. Like having a big farm, I guess. But a farm feeds people. What does a high imitation Rolex do? Just sits on your wrist.
He said the real Rolex Submariner green, they’re hard to find. Only a few people can get them. From that official flagship store. They only make a few. So everyone wants them. Like a rare bird. You see a rare bird, you want to catch it. Same with this watch, I guess. But I wouldn’t wait two years for a bird. Or a watch.
These young folks, they spend so much money on these things. High imitation Rolex, real Rolex Submariner, it don’t matter. It’s still a lot of money. They could use that money for something useful. Like a new tractor. Or seeds. Something that helps you work.
But they want that Rolex Submariner green. They all want it. They see it on someone’s wrist, they want it too. Like little kids wanting candy. They don’t think about if they need it. They just want it because other people have it. Even if they have to buy the high imitation Rolex. They just want to look like they can afford the official flagship store one.
Maybe one day I’ll understand. Maybe one day I’ll see what’s so special about this Rolex Submariner green. But for now, I’m happy with my old watch. It tells the time. That’s all I need. I don’t need a high imitation Rolex to tell me I’m successful. I got my farm. I got my family. That’s all the success I need. Those young people can keep their official flagship store watches. I’m fine right here.
