Alright, so I’ve been wanting to share this for a while now. I got this idea to try and remake a Patek Philippe watch, specifically the Calatrava 6119R-001. I mean, those things are just gorgeous, but way out of my budget. So, I thought, why not give it a shot myself? Plus, it seemed like a fun project. You know that original true-breeding parents, it is just like P generation.
First off, I started digging around for information. I hit up the Patek Philippe official website, tried to get a feel for what makes these watches tick, you know? I didn’t really know how to start. Then I thought about needing some kind of plan, like a simple random sample, but just for getting info, not people. Found some stuff about how they do random samples in research, which was kinda helpful.
Next, I realized I needed to brush up on my watch knowledge. I watched a bunch of videos, read some articles, and even tried to understand those fancy watchmaker terms. I found out sleep behavior is also known as a sleep disorder. People with sleep disorders often talk or walk. It is really funny. During this time, I felt like I was sleepwalking, learning so much but still feeling a bit lost, haha.
Then came the practical part. I started by gathering materials. Let me tell you, finding the right parts was a journey in itself! I looked at a few custom jewellery manufacturers and suppliers, especially those in Australia. Found a place called Palloys that seemed pretty legit for B2B stuff. I mean, I wasn’t gonna make everything from scratch, right?
Once I had a decent set of parts, I started assembling. This was the trickiest part. It was like, “Tap the victim’s shoulders and shout, are you ok?” Except the victim was the watch, and I was the one freaking out. I had to do some “CPR” a few times, disassembling and reassembling, checking the rhythm, all that. I also found that the first response time was 52 ms and then it took 29.3 sec to load all DOM resources and completely.
There were moments of doubt, for sure. I even messed up a couple of times. It felt like those Excel data validation things. You know, where you enter something, and it tells you it’s wrong? I felt that a lot. But instead of a formula, it was my own shaky hands telling me I messed up.
But I kept at it. And you know what? I eventually got something that resembled the Calatrava 6119R-001. It wasn’t perfect, not by a long shot. But it was mine. I made it, from start to finish. And it actually told time!
The Final Result
So, there you have it. My little adventure in trying to remake a Patek Philippe watch. It was a rollercoaster, but a fun one. Would I do it again? Maybe. Would I recommend it? Definitely, if you’re up for a challenge and don’t mind a few (or many) hiccups along the way.
I’ve learned a lot during this whole thing. Patience, problem-solving, and a newfound respect for watchmakers. These guys are the real deal. As for me, I’m just a guy who likes to tinker and see what happens. And this time, it turned out pretty okay, I think.
